Community Food Pantry

Growing to meet the needs of our community

For those who read ADD’s blog and website, we have written about our food pantry in the past. Now, we are excited to share that we are working on an expansion to this program. Currently, the ADD Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is located in the two-car garage that resides at the Tuthill Lane IRA in Aquebogue. Anyone is welcome to come and get food from us. Most of those who do utilize this resource are on food stamps. The community finds out about it through Island Harvest, who lists it on their website and via signage throughout all of the Suffolk County food pantries they serve.

We are committed to participating in the life of our community. We recently received approval from Island Harvest to add a new food pantry location, appropriately named the ADD Community Food Pantry, to our list of services. We’ll be moving to a more accessible location. The ADD Community Food Pantry will be located in downtown Riverhead on East Main Street, where our services are most needed.

Additional funding from grants allows us to grow. Recently, ADD was awarded a grant from The Charlotte Cheatham Hunger Relief Fund. They have recognized our efforts to enhance availability of nutritious foods to our local community. The Charlotte Cheatham Hunger Relief Fund was started in remembrance of Mrs. Charlotte Cheatham and her advocacy for the poor and hungry. They have provided grants to food pantries, soup kitchens and other groups on Long Island that address day-to-day nutritional requirements of our neighbors in need. We are grateful for receiving this grant to help us get our new food pantry location open and running soon.

Not only are we serving our community with the ADD Food Pantry, but we are providing an avenue for individuals in our program to enhance their community interaction and be a vital part of an important effort.
